Safety First for Newborn Photography Sessions
As a photographer and owner of Bloomin Wild Imagery, I want to assure you that the safety and care of your newborn is my top priority during all of my photoshoots. I understand that this is a special time for you and your family. As a parent myself, I know the trust you are bestowing on me when you hire me to take your newest little love’s photographs.
I follow essential safety tips to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for your little one. For example, I don’t travel for newborn photographs. This is because I know my studio and everything in it. Controlling the environment is only a piece of what helps me keep your new little love safe.
Temperature Control During Newborn Sessions
The ideal temperature for a newborn photography session is between 68-75 degrees Fahrenheit. This range helps prevent overheating, especially when babies are wrapped or swaddled. My studio is always at a comfortable temperature to keep your baby cozy and relaxed throughout the session.
Proper Newborn Swaddling and Wrapping
When swaddling or wrapping your baby, I make sure the fabric is snug but not too tight. It's important that your baby's chest and shoulders are wrapped securely, without any pressure on their neck or above their shoulders.
To help prevent your baby from overheating and giving them enough room to breathe easily, a good rule of thumb is to check that my fingers can easily fit between your baby's chest and the swaddle fabric.
Supporting Newborn Baby’s Head and Neck
Supporting your baby's head and neck is vital during a photo shoot. Being mindful and aware of neck and head support will not only help your little one feel comfortable but prevents injury. I always make sure that their head is properly cradled, whether they are on a beanbag, in a basket, or in your arms.
Never Leave Your Baby Unattended
Your baby's safety is paramount, and I never leave them unattended during a session. A parent or I will always be nearby to keep your baby safe and secure. This also helps me respond quickly if your baby needs reassurance or a slight adjustment in their position.
Safe Use of Props with Newborn Photographs
When using props, they need to be sturdy and safe. I avoid using anything that might tip over or pose a fall risk.
In addition to that, all props are washed and sanitized immediately after each session to prevent any risk of infection.
Camera Safety with Your Newborn
To prevent accidents, I always wear a camera strap when taking photos from above. My camera is securely fastened to me, eliminating the risk of it falling on your baby or bumping their fragile little heads.
Respecting Baby’s Comfort While Photographing Newborns
I never force your baby into a pose that makes them uncomfortable. If they seem fussy or resistant, I adjust the pose to help them feel comfortable and safe. This not only helps capture beautiful photos but also helps your baby feel secure and relaxed throughout the session.
A safe and enjoyable experience for you and your newborn is a huge part of my job and I take that aspect of it very seriously, treating your family like I would want mine treated. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to schedule a session.
